CHIC Kick-Off Meeting in Athens, Greece

April 13, 2013

April 1st, 2013 marked the starting point of the large scale, transatlantic research project “Computational Horizons in Cancer: Developing Meta- and Hyper-Multiscale Models and Repositories for In-Silico Oncology” or “CHIC”.

From 10-12 April, Research Professor Dr Georgios Stamatakos from the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems and the Coordinator of CHIC, welcomed forty consortium members as well as external advisors to Athens for the first project meeting. During these three days of introductory presentations, discussions and networking at the Royal Olympic Hotel at the foot of the Acropolis, the foundations for a fruitful cooperation were laid.

CHIC will last for a period of four years, within which the focus will be on the development of multiscale interactive cancer models (so called hypermodels). Patients and Clinicians will greatly benefit from the results achieved in CHIC: its hypermodels are expected to optimise individualised treatment of cancer and other diseases. What is more, the CHIC technologies function as a science based suggestion generator in the design of new prospective clinical trials.
